Solar PV & Battery Storage Installation
MCS-aligned training for electricians moving into renewables, covering array design, inverter selection, battery integration and G98/G99 notification.
What you'll be able to do
- Size an array and inverter for a real roof, including shading losses
- Integrate battery storage safely, including fire and location considerations
- Apply BS 7671 Section 712 and the DC side requirements correctly
- Complete G98 or G99 notification and MCS handover documentation
Units covered
- 01
Solar fundamentals and site survey
Irradiance, orientation, shading analysis and roof structure checks.
- 02
System design
String sizing, inverter matching, cable and isolation on the DC side.
- 03
Battery storage
Chemistry, location, ventilation, fire risk and hybrid inverter configurations.
- 04
Protection and earthing
Section 712, DC arc risk, surge protection and equipotential bonding.
- 05
Grid connection
G98 and G99 processes, export limitation and DNO liaison.
- 06
Commissioning and handover
Performance verification, MCS documentation and customer education.
Prerequisites
- · Level 3 electrical installation qualification or equivalent
- · 18th Edition certificate
- · Working at height awareness recommended
Assessment
Online knowledge test plus a design portfolio and practical commissioning assessment
Passing learners receive a CPD certificate recording 24 hours, stored in their certificate vault.
Frequently asked questions
Does the course make me MCS certified?+
No. MCS certification is held by a business, not an individual. This course gives you the technical competence evidence that a certification body will ask for.
Is battery storage covered separately?+
It is integrated throughout rather than bolted on, because most installations are now hybrid from day one.
Do I need scaffolding experience?+
Not for the assessment, but roof access competence is expected before you work commercially.
How many CPD hours?+
24 hours.
