News: Workplace Charging Scheme opens to schools and colleges — what it means for installers

Government grant funding for workplace charge points now extends to state-funded education sites — a sizeable new market for commercial EV installers.

Updated 2026-10-04

The opportunity

Thousands of schools, colleges and academies can now claim a contribution towards charge point installation. Most have car parks, three-phase supplies and estates teams looking for a single trusted contractor.

Expect tender-style procurement: method statements, RAMS, DBS-checked staff and evidence of competence.

What you need to quote

  • · EV charging installation qualification (C&G 2921-34 or equivalent)
  • · Current 18th Edition — Amendment 4
  • · Inspection and testing competence for commissioning
  • · Authorised installer status with the grant scheme

Technical watch-points

Load management on shared supplies, earthing arrangements for outdoor charge points (PME restrictions) and cable routes across public car parks are where commercial jobs differ most from domestic driveways.
