Inspection & Testing (C&G 2391-52)
The qualification employers ask for before they let you sign a certificate. Combines dead and live testing technique with the judgement needed to code observations defensibly.
What you'll be able to do
- Carry out initial verification in the correct sequence, safely
- Perform continuity, insulation resistance, polarity, Zs and RCD tests to Part 6
- Code observations as C1, C2, C3 or FI and justify each one
- Complete EICs, minor works certificates and EICRs without errors

Safe isolation
Proving dead, lock-off procedure and the common failures that end careers.

Dead testing sequence
Continuity of protective conductors and ring final circuits, insulation resistance, polarity.

Live testing
Earth fault loop impedance, prospective fault current, RCD and RCBO operation, functional testing.

Periodic inspection
Sampling, extent and limitations, and inspecting an installation you did not build.

Coding and report writing
Applying C1, C2, C3 and FI consistently, with photographic evidence.

Practical assessment preparation
Timed rig work under assessment conditions.
Prerequisites
- · Level 3 electrical installation qualification or equivalent experience
- · Current 18th Edition certificate strongly recommended
- · Access to calibrated test instruments for practice
Assessment
Written examination, practical assessment on a live test rig, and a graded EICR report
Passing learners receive a CPD certificate recording 40 hours, stored in their certificate vault.
Frequently asked questions
Can I do this fully online?+
No. The practical assessment must be completed in person, which is why the course is hybrid. The three practical days are booked around your work.
Do I need my own test meter?+
You need access to one for practice. Calibrated instruments are provided for the assessment days.
Is 2391-52 the right code for me?+
2391-52 covers both initial verification and periodic inspection. If you only need periodic, the 2391-51 route is shorter — ask us before enrolling.
How many CPD hours?+
40 hours, which covers most of a scheme year's benchmark on its own.
